Senior 3: 4th out of 6 in semi-final in 4 mins 46.70s; Senior 4: 1st out of 6 in semi-final in 4 mins 49.99s, 5th out of 6 in final in 4 mins 51.13s
Senior 4: The semi-final was our first multi-lane race, and it was pretty good. (Well, we won after all.) As with all three races it was scrappy but powerful, but this was probably the least scrappy as the cross-tailwind hadn't picked up at this point. The final was rougher - too scrappy, mainly because we didn't have the experience to deal with the wind which had by now picked up - and unsurprisingly the time was the slowest of the three.
Senior 3: We'd sorted out how we should deal with in the conditions by this third race, so the power went down more effectively and we put down our best time.
So some valuable experience in racecraft and dodgy conditions was gained which should stand us in good stead for whatver Bedford throws at us next week.

S4 Heat: Our excess weight and lack of practice starts was telling as we were in 5th place by about 10 strokes in. We chugged over the first 500m at rate 37 with Dave making a call for the rate to come down. It did and we settled at 34.5. At this stage we were still 4th. With Reading and Bedford Modern battling it out to our right and Hampton school to our left. A powerful rhythm and sneaky push at the 900m mark took us straight through Reading and Bedford Modern, leaving just Hampton in the lane next to us, who we battled with all the way to the finish, winning by just a canvas.
S4 Final: The wind had picked up by now, being a cross/tail. We also wanted to be quicker off the start to stay in contention with all the schoolboy crews, then row through them later on. This lead to a slightly frantic start, and with the conditions really not suiting our less technical style of rowing, we were at about 5th place by 20 strokes in and remained there for the rest of the race.
S3 Heat: After the poor technique in the previous race and the wind still up, we all wanted this one to be a good row and it turned out to be one. The start was pretty clean, but as in the previous 2 we were down on the main pack after 10 strokes. Reading in the lane next to us were our closest competitor and we edged past them over the course. Came in 4th at the end, just pipping Itchen Imperial to the post. Despite our low position, it was our fastest recorded time of the day and also our neatest row, so I was pleased with the improvement.
